The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) scheme was established to offset the effect of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on home ownership by providing a once off $7000 grant to first home buyers.
The scheme was introduced on 1 July 2000 and is on-going with no end date yet identified. The grant is not means-tested, nor is it restricted by the purchase price of the home.
Territory Revenue Office (TRO) is responsible for the administration of the Grant in the Northern Territory. A number of financial institutions help administer the Grant as ‘Approved FHOG Agents’ (most financial institutions) of TRO.
