The Fuel Subsidy Scheme offers a general subsidy of 1.1 cents per litre (cpl) to:
- |
fuel suppliers that make an initial supply of petroleum (motor spirits) in the Northern Territory; and |
|
| - | suppliers that supply diesel to a fixed retail outlet in the Territory. |
The Scheme is designed to ensure that consumers who purchase their petrol and diesel direct from a fixed retail outlet, for example, a service station, obtain the benefits of the subsidy through it being incorporated into the price of the fuel at the time of purchase.
A general of subsidy of 1.1 cpl is also provided to a bulk end user
of diesel where it is purchased directly from a fuel supplier (other than
a fixed retail outlet) and the diesel is to be used for on-road purposes.
