The affairs of deceased estates are generally administered by the 'Executor'.
The Executor may be a person so specified in the deceased's will or approved by a Court through the issue of a 'Grant of Probate'.
Queries regarding deceased estates should be directed to the Executor.
If you do not know the identity of an Executor you should contact the Public Trustee or Probate Office in the State in which the deceased passed away.

- Inoperative bank accounts (banks, building societies, credit unions etc);
Commonwealth legislation directs that where bank accounts have been inoperative for a period seven years, and have a balance of $500 or more, those monies are to be transferred to the Commonwealth Government. The administrator of the scheme is the Australian Securities and investment Commission (ASIC). ASIC can be contacted on 1300 300 630 or an on-line search can be made by visiting its Website www.fido.asic.gov.au.
Enquiries about accounts with balances of less than $500 should also be directed to the bank in question.
- Life insurance policies that have matured;
Commonwealth legislation directs that where a life insurance policy has been unclaimed for seven years after its maturity, those moneys are to be transferred to the Commonwealth Government.
Generally, prior to contacting the administrator of the scheme, contact should first be made with the life insurance company or friendly society that issued the policy or the financial adviser that arranged it on your behalf.
